child therapy
When I work with children, I am entering into their world through play and creative expression, which allows me to explore what they’re experiencing and gives insight into what may be supportive for their own growth and development. Your child will have a safe space to express their inner world and be celebrated for who they are.
Therapy with children isn’t the same as how therapy looks like with adults. Play and self-expression through various mediums, as well as having a supportive therapeutic relationship, is what helps a child blossom. As our brains develop through out our lives, we have the opportunity for change.
I work with children 6 years and older. I am available to meet online via telehealth, in-office, or in nature for nature therapy. For more information on nature therapy, please see below.
Adolescents
Adolescence is an important, formidable time in one’s life. Having a safe space to process, express, and discuss what is going on can be helpful for your teen. Learning tools to advocate for oneself, cope with difficult emotions, and maintain relationships will benefit them for years to come. Art and talk therapy are used, as well as the opportunity for nature therapy. This is a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth, to explore their sexual and gender identity.
Young adults
Navigating this transitional period of life, where so much change is happening and the pressure to decide what to do with one’s life has finally arrived. I love supporting individuals navigating launching, honoring your passions, and managing your mental wellbeing.
telehealth
Have therapy sessions from the comfort of your home or other safe space. Telehealth is simply doing therapy virtually, on your computer or phone. It provides you the opportunity to have therapy where you need it, so long as it’s in the state of California.
Telehealth provides a lot of the same opportunities as meeting in person, as a lot of interventions have become digitized. Telehealth allows more flexibility for scheduling. All that is needed to make telehealth work is an electronic communication device (phone, tablet, computer) and a strong, secure internet connection.
Privacy on your end is something to consider and can vary, but I maintain full confidentiality and privacy on my end for all of our sessions.
If this will be for your child, we can discuss setting up a space for them to have sessions and explore any tools available at home that can be used in session.
Nature Therapy
SANTA BARBARA, CA
Unceded chumash land
We all have a relationship with the world around us, and unfortunately we are becoming more and more estranged from our natural environment. This offering allows us to get into nature and integrate nature into our sessions. Nature is a healing force that has a lot of wisdom it is waiting to show us. Nature therapy is for all who are interested, from children to adults.
I will work with you before-hand over telehealth to discuss how we will integrate nature into your healing, as it will be unique for everyone. Ideally it will look like finding a public space in nature to meet, and build your relationship and connection with the land by returning repeatedly. If this will be for your child, it will allow us to take our play and creative expression outside. Nature will be the co-therapist. Activities we do will vary and depend on what you’re needing, but you can expect various levels of using mindfulness, movement, exploration, curiosity, and artistic expression, as well as an opening and closing ritual.
Nature therapy is a growing field with exciting new research that reinforces what indigenous knowledge has shared for generations. Spending time and improving our relationship with nature has been shown to decrease anxiety, stress, and depression, as well as improve self-esteem and confidence. When we improve our relationship with nature, we improve our relationship with ourselves and with each other.
“Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone.”
